Saving wetlands for wildlife & people

The Irish Wetland Bird Survey

The Irish Wetland Bird Survey (I-WeBS) is the national monitoring project for non-breeding waterbirds, wintering in Ireland. I-WeBS is jointly run by BirdWatch Ireland and the National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) of the Department of the Environment, Heritage and Local Government. WWT is a former partner.

The project aims to be the primary source of data for the conservation of waterbird populations and the wetland habitats on which they depend. To this end, a large volume of data are collected annually from a variety of wetland sites throughout Ireland. These data are used to describe and assess population trends, assess importance of individual wetland sites and hence take appropriate conservation measures.
