Species/Populations Greenland Barnacle Goose History Between 1959 and 2008, twelve full international surveys were carried out, conducted at approximately five-yearly intervals. Aims Assess population size and distribution, and identify important wintering sites. Coverage International (UK and Ireland) Frequency Every five years. Methods Combination of ground counts and aerial surveys. Results Results from the 2003 and 2008 censuses are available to download here. Getting involved Due to the remoteness of wintering areas for this population, and the methods employed to count them, there are few opportunities for helping with this census. However, monitoring of abundance and productivity in years between international censuses is also very valuable, and we would welcome interest from anyone able to help with this.
