UK-breeding Greylag Goose Survey

Species/Populations
This survey was designed to monitor the Northwest Scotland (NWS) and Re-established Greylag Goose populations. Since 2010, Greylag Geese throughout Britain have been treated as one population, British Greylag; due to the overlap in the range of the NWS and Re-established populations increasing to a point where delimiantion became difficult to jusify.

History
This survey ran from 2001 to 2008 with an aim of improving our understanding of the breeding success of the UK-breeding population of Greylag Goose.

Aims
To monitor breeding success.

Coverage
UK

Frequency
Annual, between April and August.
The survey was discontinued in 2008.

Methods
Visits were made to known breeding locations to record the number of adult birds and the number of goslings. The counts were not coordinated, but counters were encouraged to make visits to their site/s throughout the survey period at key stages in the breeding cycle of the geese.

Results
The results have yet to be analysed thoroughly, although summary information has been included in past issues of GooseNews. Results from any future analysis will be reported here when they become available.
